I soooooooooo hated Aeris is FFVII... VII wasn't THAT good as many over-obsessed fans shout out, mainly cuz the plot had holes... it was like friggin swiss cheese. XD Kill 'er Seph, kill the pink thing...

FFVII was major cool, but it still had many flaws in the plot... like killing Aeris. U don't create such a lovable character just to kill her off!!
Plus FFVIII had characters that you could relate more to... I see myself in Squall in so many occasions (ok, maybe not when he is saving the world, bu when he starts shouting when they tell him he's destinied for things)

Although I'll always think FF7 is the best, I will say that FF8 has some good characters in it. Although the battle system kinda sucked. XD
